Biography

Bolot Bairyshev – the Honoured Artist of the Altai Republic, the Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation; the performer of the traditional altai throat singing – kai; the musician, who masterly plays all the national instruments – khomus, topshuur, shoor and so on; the participant of numerous festivals and music projects all over the world – in France, Austria, Hungary, Japan, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Norway and others.

Prize-winner of many prestigious festivals and contests:

The «Voice of Asia» Contest laureate (1992);

The Grand Prize winner at the «Fire song» variety contest of Siberia and the Far East;

The first award holder in the Almaty epos performers contest (1996);

The gold medallist at the vargan (Jew`s-harp) festival in Molln, Austria (1998);

The Ankara Turkic Folk Festival gold medallist (1999);

Participant of the «Katun River-2000» Rock festival in Gorny Altai (2000);

UNESCO special award holder «for maintenance and popularization of ethnic culture» at the International Music Festival «Voice of Asia» in Samarkand (2001);

Participation in the Days of Russian Culture in Germany (2003, 2005);

Participant of the festival «The Elixir of life» (2007);

The Choros-Gurkin prize-winner;

Regular participant of different festivals of ethnic music in Russia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and others;

Participator of the cultural programme in the First International Debut Film Festival «Spirit of Fire» in Hanty-Mansiysk;

Participant at the International folk-jazz fests: Abakan-89, Rome-95, Oslo-97, Amsterdam-93, Krakow-94, Zurich-97, Seoul-98, Istanbul-93, Ankara-2000, Merano-2000, Riddu-Riddu-2001 (Norway);

Bolot acted in the following documentary films «The Kyrlyk nugget» and «Wishing the Good» (director G. Soshnikov), and also in the action blockbuster «Piranha»; took part in film shooting of «The Secret of Chingis Chan» (Russia-USA-Mongolia, 2009).

Having a number of CDs released, including both solo performance and creative collaborations with noted, well-known musicians.

At present Bolot is working in Gorno-Altaysk Philarmonic Society. Also he gives solo concerts, master-classes, takes part in joint projects with other performers, during his tours in- and outside Russia he tells about Gorny Altai – about its unique beauty, its customs and traditions.

Bolot Bairyshev is really a person of natural gifts, of which the key one is not even in his undoubtful talents for singing and playing music. But he is naturally gifted with something very significant – his kindness, sincerity and amazing beauty of spirit. And these are the qualities which make a person worthy of admiration...
